The resort of Megève, in the mountains of the Savoie, has provided a glamorous winter backdrop for skiing since the Rothschild family made it fashionable in the early 1900s. The quaint, picture-perfect village centre, dominated by a 13th-century church tower has now re-emerged as a popular place for skiing but more pre-eminently, for eating. Its restaurants are now beginning to attract more attention than its slopes - and it boasts one of the best spas in the world.
