A brief overview of a 10-day kick back at the Anassa Hotel, Cyprus...
We treated ourselves to a suite with a private plunge pool (worth every penny), absolute heaven. We only had to leave the room to eat in the evening. Room service was impeccable; we were always given a specific time of delivery (about 10-15 minutes). Forget the beach, it's impossible to walk on the small stones. The communal pool was fabulous and not crowded due to an abundance of loungers across the lawns.
The restaurants could not have been better with regard to choice, presentation and most importantly, taste. The service was excellent, almost to a fault - each sip of wine was fastidiously topped up again! Although the hotel was full, it didn't seem so... This is something more hotels should strive to achieve: we don't all want to fight for a sun lounger, listen to piped music all day and line up for meals (are you listening, Sandals?!).
The spa is great, but if you want to really utilise it you should get a copy of the treatments and plan ahead. They get really booked up so reservations prior to arrival would be advisable.
The funniest thing was the maids who, apart from cleaning the room twice a day, come back frequently to check on everything from the mini-bar, to the towels, to just popping in to see if everything is OK. They only knock once and never hear or do not heed the frantic pleas of "later", "not now" or "hang on a moment" and cheerfully walk right on in. Cue red faces!
The overall ambience of the place was tasteful, relaxed and the views were spectacular. Except for our "garden suite" which looked out on to a field of weeds - probably better known as a butterfly garden, with a glimpse of blue sea beyond. Whilst disappointing, it didn't ruin the stay.
This is the first vacation in a long time that I found nothing major to disappoint me. As my husband puts it, I am the queen of complaining and this place shut me up!
