The incredibly swish Naumi hotel, with its cutting-edge design and in-room electronic wizardry, has become a magnet for top-ranking fashion and business travellers. The 40-bedroom hotel is in a 10-storey glass tower opposite Raffles Hotel, on a quiet street of traditional Chinese shop-houses. An origami-inspired sculpture covered with rainforest vines, decorates the façade, a theme repeated inside with a sculpture of glass and steel panels with vine and floral motifs. The futuristic lobby, with its turquoise- and white-leather seating units looks a little like the bridge on Star Trek's
USS Enterprise. The roof terrace has an infinity-edged pool, shaded loungers and spectacular views of the city skyline. But the Naumi's real strength is its personal service and beautiful suites. Every guest gets a 24-hour valet who picks them up from the airport in a Mercedes and acts as a personal concierge throughout their stay. The suites are decorated in a chocolate/latte palette with Italian designer furniture; they have every gizmo you can imagine, kitchenettes and large stone and marble bathrooms with rain showers. There is a women-only floor, a yoga room and two gyms. Breakfast is served in the lobby bar and there's a 24-hour room-service menu, but no restaurant.
WHEN TO GO
It would make a great base for the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix in September.
