The port of Hvar Town is where Russian playboys step ashore from their floating vodka palaces and pay handsomely for a private table at the harbourside nightclubs. Until now, there has been nowhere to speak of to which to retreat from the high-summer excess. But the 59-room Hotel Adriana, a complete makeover of the former Adriatic, sits smack on the harbour, with superb views of the fishermen's boats, the superyachts and the Venetian piazza. Most importantly, it has the island's first proper spa, Sensorķ, with tented treatment rooms on the roof terrace. There's also a 25-metre, heated outdoor/indoor saltwater pool, a sun deck and an outdoor Jacuzzi. And if all this healthiness becomes too much, the open-sided Sky Bar, illuminated by LED lighting, has wonderful views and a chill-out DJ soundtrack. The hotel's interior design is chic, urban club-land: sleek lines and bold blocks of colour, predominantly black, white and lilac. Shower-rooms in the bedrooms are half-obscured behind frosted glass etched with nudes; the rooms themselves have wooden floors, more coloured LED lighting and sculptural wicker lamps shaped like fish traps. The terrace restaurant specialises in Mediterranean-style seafood, but if you want to dine elsewhere, the hotel is part of the Suncani Hvar group of hotels (and a luxury beach club), all of which can charge meals to your room.
