The Hotel Sezz is in the fashionable 16th arrondissement, just one block from the Seine and a short walk from the boutique-lined rue de Passy. A former Best Western hotel, the Sezz has been jazzed-up beyond recognition by Starck-inspired designer Christophe Pillet. Owner Shahé Kalaidjian (of Le Pavillon de Paris) has opted to have no check-in desk. Instead, a friendly personal assistant will greet you with a drink and usher you to a leather chair in one of the sitting rooms decked out in tall, hand-blown Murano vases and lamps. Upstairs, there are 13 bedrooms and 14 suites decorated in muted shades of deep red, mustard yellow and brown, with matching cashmere throws on the enormous beds. The look is spare but original: plush shag rugs, teak furniture and grey stone walls. The spacious white bathrooms (only separated from the bedroom by a glass partition) have tubs big enough for two. if you want to be reached in the mini-spa downstairs, with its huge, tiled Jacuzzi, hammam and massage room. Drinks and breakfast are served in the Veuve-Clicquot-sponsored bar, which is aggressively lit but attractively furnished with hot-pink circular booths and Driade chairs and tables.

Any time, particularly over the Christmas season when the Eiffel Tower
is illuminated with coloured lights.
