HOTEL LE A

PARIS, FRANCE
PHOTO GALLERY
Once you've squeezed past the photographers, stylists and models in the lobby, Le A is a tranquil little haven. The soothing interiors of the 26-bedroom hotel, on a quiet street between the Champs Elysées and rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, are the result of a collaboration between conceptual artist Fabrice Hybert and interior designer Frédéric Méchiche. Hybert provided everything from simple drawings, cartoons and sketches to enormous tapestries: one, depicting a group of tree trunks, covers an entire wall in the exquisite, glass-roofed bar/breakfast room on the ground floor (there is no restaurant). The predominantly white colour scheme is broken up with blocks of black in the public spaces. The reception area features floor-to-ceiling, chocolate-brown velvet curtains, comfy armchairs and a library stocked with books on art and design. On the downside, the bedrooms are rather small, despite Méchiche's ingenious use of mirrors in the smallest recesses to add light and an illusion of space.

WHEN TO GO
September to June, but avoid fashion week in October, when rooms are booked months in advance.

ROOM TO BOOK
505, a junior suite that feels bigger than most of the other rooms.
