Padding around in PJs is actively encouraged at the 20-room (no suites) Westbourne hotel - Notting Hill's answer to the traditional B&B. Since the white stucco Georgian terraced house opened to the public last September, guests ranging from Morcheeba to Madonna's roadies, have enjoyed lounging on the hand-waxed leather banquettes in the guest-only reception-cum-bar (there is no restaurant), juggling breakfast and a book over the walnut coffee tables and ebony-stained floorboards. The Westbourne is overrun with love-or-hate-it contemporary Brit art: the blue disc mobile above the reception desk is by Daniel Chadwick; different solo exhibitions feature in every bedroom, which also have floor-to-ceiling claret-red curtains, luxuriously thick quilts and DVD televisions. The spacious bathrooms are decked out with products by Space NK and Bath House, and for email junkies without their laptops, there is a free-for-all iMac in the 'garden-room', a glass-walled hallway overlooking the back patio.
WHEN TO GO
All year round, for the great shops within strolling distance (Paul Smith's Westbourne House, APC, Tokļo); during London Fashion Week (February and September) if you enjoy hanging out with models; or the Notting Hill Carnival (end of August), for the party on your doorstep
WHICH ROOM TO BOOK
Numbers one, two or three on the ground floor. They are the biggest and share a spacious back patio furnished with wooden tables and chairs, and edged with bamboo, fern and tropical plants. Doubles £170-£255
