THE FACTS ABOUT PAMPLONA
Spain

Pamplona is home to the famous Sanfermines festival that takes place in July. This nine day fiesta, which was adored by Hemingway, includes the infamous encierro: the Running of Bulls. If being chased by angry, large-horned animals isn't your thing, a visit at any other time of the year is still worthwhile, as Pamplona is a stunning historical centre wedged in the middle of the Navarra mountain region. It is well known for its wine production, and vineyards - often open for wine tours - dot the surrounding hills. You must pay visits to Pamplona's 14th-century Gothic cathedral and the Taconera Park, which is perfect for romantic strolls. The little plazas and so-small-you-could-miss-them tapas bars make Pamplona a perfect city to explore by day or night.
