WHERE A charming village in the shadow of the Eiger, with stately old hotels, wooden chalets, and awesome views. The backbone of the lift system is the mountain railway, to the benefit of beginners and non-skiers. WHAT The cradle of downhill skiing, Wengen's ski area is linked to that of Grindelwald; Mürren is also covered on the lift pass, giving a total of 45 lifts and 195km of piste. WHY Excellent nursery slopes are the hub of the village. And there are some satisfyingly long, easy runs on which even those with limited technique can stretch their legs.
