TREMBLANT

QUEBEC, CANADA
WHERE
Intrawest has invested Can$1 billion here, north-east of Montreal, to create a year-round, ski-and-golf centre out of a rundown 1939 ski resort. The new village has steep, cobbled streets and brightly painted buildings.

WHAT
One of Canada's most accessible resorts from the UK. State-of-the-art lift system; 80km of pistes; an extensive network of snow-making cannons; 80 shops and restaurants in the village, but no cars.

WHY
About 16 per cent of pistes are suitable for beginners, who, usually, can ski right down the mountain on 'green' (beginners') runs. Good for families with teenagers, foodies and people who don't mind a cold climate.

HOW
90 minutes' drive from Montreal. Chateau Mont Tremblant is comfortable and convenient. Le Gascon is a good brasserie.
