THE FACTS ABOUT SONEVA GILI MALDIVES
Maldives Maldives

The Soneva Gili resort on Lankanfushi, a diminutive island near the capital of Mahé, is the sister hotel of Soneva Fushi, voted the best hotel in the world by readers of Condé Nast Traveller. Billed as the first 'all-water villa resort' in the Maldives, Soneva Gili has four boardwalk tentacles that extend from the coral-fringed islet into the still, blue water, each sprouting air-conditioned, wood-under-thatch villa suites, fitted with sun decks and, inside, espresso machines and carefully secreted CD players. There are also eight intensely romantic 'Crusoe residences', marooned off the north shore of the island. Canoes are supplied to swish to and from the resort's island-based facilities. An aura of calm has been accomplished with clean lines, bleached wood and a lack of clutter. Most guests will be content to sink into a deep state of inertia, but dive packages are on offer, along with deep-sea fishing and knee-boarding. With a total of 44 suites and residences, any castaway fantasies should be left at the departure lounge, although it is true that the suites are set discreetly apart.
