LA MAISON DE NINO

CASSIS, PROVENCE, FRANCE
Opened in 2005, the Maison is owned by Bruno Brezzo of Cassis's landmark seafood restaurant, Nino. 'We wanted to create a luxurious place for our clients,' explains Brezzo, who converted a two-storey village house on the cobbled street just behind Nino into this ultra-modern three-room guesthouse.

The spare but elegant loft-like rooms are distinctly nautical in style, and have plenty of walnut panelling, parquet floors and essentials such as CD players and Wi-Fi access, fluffy duvets and gleaming white shower-rooms.

The split-level mezzanine suite, Mistral, is the biggest, with an LED-lit staircase leading up to the king-size bed. A frieze of narrow windows installed at eye-level with the bed provide views of fishing boats. Couples with children may prefer the Regali Suite, which has both a mezzanine level and a double sofa bed. Even the smallest room, Tramontane, is cavernous, with tall bay windows framed by gauzy white drapes. Breakfast is served on the terrace at the restaurant, where you can watch fishermen sell sea urchins to passers-by.

ROOM TO BOOK: Mistral, for its wrought-iron balcony on which to sip superb white or rosé Cassis wines (you'll find a half-bottle of each in your fridge).

1 Quai Barthélémy, Cassis (00 33 4 42 01 74 32; www.nino-cassis.com). Doubles from €180
