Every floor has a theme (Literature, Technology, Social Sciences) and every room a subject. You can check into Slavic on Languages, for instance, or Logic on Philosophy. All 60 rooms have appropriate reading matter and artwork. (Bill Gates's portrait in New Media.) Mahogany panelling enhances the academic air, as do the staff with their librarians' zeal for quiet efficiency. Naturally, there are books (more than 6,000), plus the 100 best films ever made (according to the American Film Institute); but this library also has cocktail shakers in the junior suites and a bottega di vino style restaurant, Vigneti, off the lobby (try the breaded veal with escarole salad, $24).
