Carducci 76 is owned by Massimo Ferretti, brother of fashion designer Alberta. The 38-room hotel, occupying a converted 1920s beachside villa, is as stylish as its neighbours are style-free. The interiors are pared-down, the tables low and geometric, the African wall hangings cool; and the building is full of natural light. There is a pool beside the beach, and a restaurant, Vicolo Santa Lucia, which is as celebrated as the hotel.
THE DESTINATION
Cattòlica, 25 minutes' drive from Rimini, is set on the Adriatic Riviera, which is neither undiscovered nor unspoilt. But the area is not without charm, notably in Rimini's old town, once the haunt of film director Federico Fellini - and the beaches are long and wide, the sea calm and temperate.
