A listed interior in what was once the headquarters of the GLC, and is now the London Marriott Hotel County Hall, has meant that the furnishings of the restaurant, including artworks on loan from the Hayward Gallery, sit somewhat awkwardly in their wood-panelled surroundings. The view from County Hall across the river to Westminster, however, is a beautiful one, day or night, and anyone swivel-necked might catch a glimpse of the London Eye alongside. Irish chef Richard Corrigan played a part as a catering advisor, which means some unexpectedly robust dishes have found their way onto a menu that can otherwise be defined by that catch-all phrase, Modern British. The easy-going opening hours, from noon until late, are worth noting.
