Nestled in the streets of Holland Park lies Clarendon Cross, the first stand-alone Cowshed spa. The chain has become synonymous with luxury and pampering thanks to Nick Jones' Babington House in Somerset, and the spa at Clarendon is immediately welcoming. A bar and open plan restaurant on the left caters for your food and drink needs, while a huddle of women sitting down for a mani or pedi in the recliners watch the cool bubble TV's on the first floor. Downstairs, the spa is more peaceful, elegantly decorated, with spacious treatment rooms and delicious scents.
Having decided to go for the signature Cowshed Massage, our tester had a consultation with the therapist who determined whether she needed relaxation, shiatsu, deep tissue or a Swedish massage. Having decided that she was very tense, the therapist ensured her back had a workout - combining all types of massage to really work into the shoulders and reduce the muscles' lactic acid. After the treatment, our girl grabbed a coffee from the café upstairs (a regular drop-in for ladies in the neighbourhood) before walking back to the office with a weight lifted from her shoulders. A 60-minute massage costs £60.
