KIA ORA SAUVAGE

FRENCH POLYNESIA
PHOTO GALLERY
The five tiny bungalows on the south side of Rangiroa, sleep 10 people and are an hour's cruise from the Hotel Kia Ora. There are no phones or electricity. Set amid coconut and palm trees and built of ironwood, woven palms and bamboo, they are decorated with curtains made from shells, coral tiles and stone washbasins in the bathrooms. You can wander the miles of reef, fish alongside local fishermen, eat seafood dinners by oil lamp and laze in hammocks. Or you can visit neighbouring islands and lagoons with a picnic, look for dolphins and basking sharks or snorkel and canoe. Rangiroa is considered one of the best dive sites in the world: if you have minimal experience try an initiation dive at the Nohi Nohi lagoon, where you can see coral and tropical fish. Deep-sea fishing can also be arranged.
