The Narain Niwas stands amid sprawling, landscaped gardens and orchards of mango; tigers once came in search of water, and panthers would stalk peacocks (although nowadays the birdlife thrives). High-ceilinged bedrooms are filled with colonial furniture, Afghan carpets, Rajasthani weapons and native hand-block curtains. Charming and inexpensive, but not for comfort-seekers.
