RAJASTHAN, INDIA

 |
A converted shooting lodge set in lush gardens beside an artificial lake, this place was where the Maharajah stayed when on grand shoots in the surrounding woods (now a sanctuary for blackbuck, wild boar and other wildlife). Under the ownership of HRH hotels, the buildings were renovated in 1998. Gloomy rooms in the annexe, 100 yards behind the main palace, are best avoided. The dining room is prefab, 1950s style, but it has a veranda and there are wonderful views of the lake.
