THE FACTS ABOUT CASTLE MANDAWA
India

A cleverly converted 16th-century castle in a remote village, with frescoed internal walls. Sword-bearing guards welcome guests at the gate. Cannons in the courtyard are evidence of the castle's warring past. In the evening the host, Kesri Singh, may invite you for drinks up on an open tower, then dinner around a blazing fire in the courtyard. Ideally placed for trips to the neighbouring towns and their painted havelis; also for the jubilant Holi and Ganguar festivals during March and April.
