VILLA OLOUS

CRETE, GREECE
If your ideal Greek-island escape involves a game of croquet followed by a picnic in your own olive grove, Villa Olous is for you. A tennis court, billiards room, Orthodox chapel and two resident cats are also part of the package at this exclusive, US-owned estate. The huge living room, with its 600-year-old fireplace and sea views on three sides, is decorated with oversized sofas and fine art. Upstairs, three air-conditioned bedrooms - the Master Bedroom, Blue Room and Moroccan Room - are a picture of understated sophistication. The Master Bedroom is the most glamorous, with a king-size bed, sundeck and two en-suite bathrooms for shower and Jacuzzi. There's a well-stocked library and satellite TV, if you can peel yourself away from the infinity pool. With a stylish outhouse for quarantining sulky teenagers, this is a great family house, but sheer drops make it unsuitable for small children. There's no direct access to the sea, but guests can use the watersports facilities, golf course, spas and restaurants at nearby Elounda Mare, Porto Elounda, or Peninsula hotel at additional cost.
