Done Amsterdam? Then consider a trip to the Dutch capital. The opulent Le Meridien Hotel Des Indes (00 31 70 361 2345; www.lemeridien.com/Netherlands), has had a 35 euro million makeover by Jacques Garcia, doyen of French hotel designers best known for Hôtel Costes in Paris and the Metropole in Monte Carlo. Just 45 minutes by train from Schipol airport, The Hague is home to the Mauritshuis, a gallery in a 17th-century townhouse that contains Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring as well as works by Rembrandt (The Anatomy Lesson of Dr Nicolas Tulp), Hals and numerous lesser Dutch masters. For contrast, the 1930s Gemeentemuseum has the largest collection of Mondrians.
