| Unlike its Oktoberfest (17 September to 3 October), during which five million litres of beer will be consumed, Munich's Long Night of Museums on 15 October is a very wholesome reason for staying up late. On that day, the city's 80-plus galleries and museums remain open into the early hours, and there are shuttle buses to ferry you between them. If you go, don't miss the outstanding new Pinakothek der Moderne or the Lenbachhaus, with its collection of Kandinskys.
