WHO
British Universities North America Club, run by students for students that facilitates up to 9,000 placements per year, most in the US during the summer holidays. It is ideal for those who want to combine paid work with extensive travel

WHERE
Predominantly the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand; but also South Africa, Russia, China, Ghana and Argentina

WHAT
BUNAC provides students with a temporary work permit, but whether you work as a counsellor in a US summer camp, join the teaching programme in Ghana or arrange your own placement on arrival is up to you

HOW
For Work America (but not Work Australia) you need a place at university. Costs range from £66 for summer-camp application (plus visa and insurance; flights are recouped from wages) to £1,400 for Work Australia (including flights)
