This imposing structure near Propriano on the south-west coast of Corsica may resemble a Napoleonic fort, but is, in fact, an imaginatively converted wine tower. Best for a group of friends, it has eight well-furnished bedrooms and its French owners have given the interior a distinctive, almost Gaudí-esque feel which softens the austere brutalism of the building. The top-floor master bedroom and grand living room, with its 360-degree views taking in the coastline, is reached by a lift. There is a shady, wooden-decked pool area and an outdoor kitchen for summer dining. Should you wish to explore the surrounding area, La Piazza Ronda is well-located for walking, riding, climbing, canyoning, canoeing and sailing.
