The south coast of Spain is littered with second-rate rentals kitted out with substandard furniture and bad art, but Casa del Rio shines out from the whitewashed tat like the jewel it is. It's a big, proud house, with a touch of Andalucian haughtiness in its careful yet comfortable 'modern rustic' furnishings (the work was undertaken by a local designer who has subtly updated the classic Andalucian country look), massive bathrooms and a state-of-the-culinary-arts kitchen. Outdoors, there are several terraces, including a Moroccan-influenced lounger, a 12-metre swimming pool, and extensive, manicured lawns.
