The fishing village of Lamorna
combines the romance of
smugglers' coves with a
glamorous artistic and literary
pedigree - painter Sir Alfred
Munnings lived here and
writer John le Carré still does.
Perhaps unsurprisingly,
property developer Lee
Magner was smitten when
he first saw this pretty 19th-century
prayer house
overlooking the ocean. He
opened The Cove three years
ago, with 15 state-of-the-art
apartments, an outdoor
pool, a sauna, a restaurant set
around a wood-burning fire
and a yurt. The spacious
accommodation has been
furnished with Tulip-style
bar stools and Habitat four-posters
(or similar), and the
colour scheme is strictly white,
sand, turquoise and chocolate,
right down to the pottery.
The self-catering option and Sky children's channels are
popular with families (Magner
has daughters aged nine and
11), and there's a charming
play area complete with
rabbits and their offspring:
amazingly, one gave birth on
Easter Monday, much to the
delight of guests. General
manager Frances and her
team cater for city-slicker
expectations, organising in-room
Rejuven Essence facials
and rustling up quail's egg risotto and lobster hampers
for day trips to the Minack
Theatre and the Isles of Scilly.
