Lord and Lady Coke's mansion hotel in Norfolk offers the best of what England has to offer: an exclusive environment, a rugged coastline and a great escape. The hotel is situated just a few minutes walk from Holkham Beach at Holkham Hall, Lord Coke's ancestral home. The Lord himself describes the interior as "shabby chic", with strong colours, ornate furniture and heavy fabrics. The hotel has 10 rooms and suites - all with a warm feel - and there are also three lodges (Palmer, Cuckoo and the Triumphal Arc) of varying sizes to choose from. Each lodge has been lovingly restored to former glory using traditional methods. The estate is large, so you might find that you have a bit of a walk to do before you get that longed-for view of the sea, but it is worth it.
