Beaches of pebble and shingle, rather than sand, and a mountainous terrain
have saved the north-eastern reaches of Corfu from heavy development. This villa, a short walk from the hamlet of Nissáki, has just such a beach: small and rocky, but with clear water that is ideal for swimming and snorkelling. Skinos is a Corfiot-style stone building with a tiled roof and a long, beamed sitting room (stone floors, rugs, objets d'art) which was once an olive press and has large circular stones still in situ. Ground-floor bedrooms comprise an en-suite double, a single (used as a dressing room) and a twin-bedded room in an annexe; upstairs there are two doubles and a twin. The closest shop is 10 minutes away, but local supermarkets will deliver. The English owners provide plenty of books to browse through, and you can hire a boat to find out-of-the-way beaches or visit tavernas further along the coast.
