Whether lying in bed or taking a shower at this entirely glass-walled, honeymooners' love nest, 400km north of Auckland, you have spectacular 180-degree views of the sea and bush, and at night an electronic skylight over the bed opens for stargazing. First Light Temple is positioned for privacy. A downstairs living area has floor-to-ceiling windows that fold back and an 'indoor-outdoor' open fire on the terrace. Walk about 20 minutes through the bush to reach a private crescent
of sand, bounded on both ends by rock pools, a beachcomber's heaven littered with beautiful shells. Take a picnic hamper and spend the day watching small boats sail out to one of the many islands in the bay, and stay until evening to watch the sunset. Within the Eagle's Nest gardens, there's an infinity lap-pool and a spa (shared with other properties); food shopping and good restaurants are two minutes' drive away in the small town of Russell.
