Sardinia is a beautiful Mediterranean island, off the coast of Italy and just south of Corsica. The island hosts the rich and famous during summer, and its Costa Smeralda riviera is the Italian paparazzi's favourite haunt. Stay out of their photos by arriving slightly later in the season, when the sea is still warm and privacy can be yours.
STAY AT Forte Village Resort: set in 25 hectares of landscaped grounds on the south coast of the island, it has seven hotels and 33 suites in four separate units - Castello, Cala del Forte, Beachcomber and Boat House. Facilities include 12 floodlit tennis courts, swimming pools of various sizes and even an ice rink. The spa offers thalassotherapy treatments and specialises in therapies for stress and sport injuries. Forte Village Resort featured in The Gold List 2008. WHEN TO GO: Although the star-spotting is better in peak summer season, early autumn is cooler and more comfortable, and you have more chance of getting into the restaurants. The best month is September.
