This is a magical place, a stone's throw from the medieval centre of the archetypal, fairy-tale Alpine resort of Megève. First, there is the wizardry of Marc Veyrat's creations, mocking our preconceptions and challenging our taste buds with his 14-course Menu Sonate or 17-course Menu Symphonie. Then there is the setting: the restaurant is in a perfectly reconstructed Savoyard farmhouse, built over cowsheds, pigsties, hen coops and stables, with glass panels set into the floors and walls allowing you to watch the animals, or them watch you, as you eat. Beyond the restaurant are nine magnificent bedrooms, with price-tags to match, that redefine luxury with Frette sheetes, laptops and plasma screens; some have fireplaces and heated plunge pools on private balconies.
