Pierre Carrier's gastronomic menu reflects his true passion for black truffles: the risotto Piemontais with black truffles, ravioli of wood mushrooms and foie gras with cream of chestnuts and black truffles, and turbot studded with black truffles are all exemplary. The wine list is equally enticing, presided over by sommelier Christian Martray. Hameau Albert 1er has been in the same family for five generations and it is expertly run: the interiors gleam with lovingly polished regional antiques and are filled with the scent of fresh flowers. The bedrooms, many with unsullied views of Mont Blanc, are chic and luxurious, with a mix of cutting-edge technology and old mountain furniture. Bathrooms are all stocked with Annick Goutal toiletries. Neighbouring farmhouse Maison Carrier is a more rustic but equally inviting option with its own swimming pool, selection of bedrooms and a charming regional restaurant where sausages and mountain hams are smoked over the fire.
