EL CHURRASCO

CÓRDOBA, SPAIN
Córdoba in southern Spain is a city of courtyards, from the vast, orange-planted square outside the Mezquite to the tiny, flower-filled patios of the houses in the old town. The patio at the long-established El Churrasco has Moorish influences in its arches and fountains; for a more Mediterranean feel, eat on the first-floor terrace at the Limonero, named for the lemon tree rooted in the kitchen. The food is solidly local: the menu changes seasonally but salmorejo, the thicker Córdoban version of gazpacho, is a must-have, as is the peppery-hot churrasco sauce (from which the restaurant takes its name), traditionally served with solomillo of pork. In winter, charcoal braziers ward off any evening chill.
