Right in front of the inspiring Museu d'Història de Catalunya, the very model of a modern museum, is a row of seafood restaurants with views over the marina. Cal Pinxo is one of the best but they are all good, so choose a table at whichever one gets you nearest to the seafront (if Cal Pinxo is full you can go to its sister restaurant around the corner on the Playa Barceloneta). Make sure you order either fideuá, Barcelona's classic dish of short pasta cooked in shellfish stock, or arroz negro, rice with squid ink, perhaps preceded by some grilled razor clams (navajas) or an escabeche de bacalão (salt cod).
A bottle of chilled white wine - Torres Esmeralda is an unusual mix of grape varietals, including Gewürztraminer - is essential.
