This chic, minimalist hotel is located in Maremma, in southern Tuscany, and is built around a volcanic crater out of which gushes a piping hot sulphur bath that bubbles all day and night. Terme di Saturnia is a medical spa with a holiday feel encircled by lovely hilltop villages and Etruscan tombs. You can take a brisk walk around the Tuscan hillside before hopping into the pool. Treatments, based on Mediterranean traditions, include oxygenating multi-vitamin facials, where a mask made of the slimy plankton that arises from the sulphuric water is applied, leaving skin feeling wonderful. Olive oil, essential oils, basil and honey are also used. There are 140 elegant rooms, Tuscan cuisine at All'Acquacotta restaurant, and an art gallery staging contemporary art exhbitions. The nearby open-air Juice Bar offers fruit and vegetable-based cocktails, smoothies and snacks. There is also an 18-hole golf course created by Californian architect Ronald Fream.
