SEE: JULIET'S HOUSE

VERONA, ITALY
This one is firmly on the tourist track, but for die-hard Shakespeare fans - and others - it is still a must. Located in the old town of Verona, which itself is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and well worth the visit alone, this is the imagined house of Juliet Capulet, part of the most famous star-crossed couple in the history of literature. The building, which is very real indeed, has stood here from the 12th century and visitors revel in being photographed underneath the balcony. Once owned by the Del Cappello family, who are believed to have been the inspiration behind the Capulets, the house's gothic doorway is accompanied by Renaissance interiors, should you choose to venture indoors.
