THE FACTS ABOUT SEE: CASTELVECCHIO
Italy

An impressive castle built by the Scaligeri family who ruled the city from 1263-1390, the Castelvecchio has an art gallery with a collection of 15th-century late Renaissance Madonnas, along with the Sarcophagus of Saints Sergius and Bacchus dated to 1179. The fortifications of the castle are due to the precarious times in which the Scaligieris ruled and include a fortified bridge that leads to a secure route along the Adige valley.
