This pretty, architect-designed house was built recently in traditional Sicilian style, combining the best of old and new (the spacious built-in cupboards, for example, are fronted by salvaged antique doors). It is in a convenient location in the hills behind the city of Catania, but enjoys a secluded position at the base of an extinct volcano with Mount Etna beyond. There is a new swimming pool in the walled, terraced garden, which has mature palm trees, a rose garden and a number of shady seating areas. Cleverly designed with two bedrooms downstairs and four upstairs (along a sunny passageway with French doors and stairs leading to the pool), there is plenty
of space for a large group or family. The kitchen, lined in old Sicilian-patterned tiles, opens onto an enclosed dining patio and there are two big, open-plan living areas.
