Gray says: 'The best time to come here is in the middle of the truffle season (October to December), when the fungi feature in almost every dish. We enjoyed wet polenta with truffles and pasta, cooked fresh every day, with white truffles and Parmesan. Other Piedmontese specialities on the menu include pasta with hot anchovy sauce and beef cooked in Barolo wine. The restaurant is in a massive room with fabulous views of Barolo vineyards; there's an excellent wine list and the tables are always laden with glasses - it's popular with winemakers who take their clients and have a different vintage with each course. Outside there's a cobbled square where children can run around.'
