Mountain Meadows guest ranch sits 7,500ft high among 580 acres of private land. The horizon is dominated by the intimidating triangle of the snowcapped Lone Peak. Deer, moose, elks, bears, coyotes and wolfs can be spotted in the surrounding acres of pine wood and pale green and gold prairie. The ranch is small with only seven guest rooms and two family cabins, furnished with cosy beds, comfortable plaid armchairs, woven rugs and beautiful embroidered-bear cushions. It's a friendly place perfect for honeymooners, families and people travelling on their own. Activities include horse riding, hiking and mountain biking on the property, white-water rafting and fly fishing for river trout, and trips to Yellowstone National Park, about an hour's drive away, to see geysers, hot springs and buffalo. At the end of the day, there's an outdoor Jacuzzi to relax in. In winter, you can ski (downhill or cross country). Food is excellent with great breakfasts, sensational picnic lunches, and over-generous dinners prepared by chef Yurii Richards, which may include sweet potato soup, lobster tail with spinach and orzo, and pear tart.
Cost: An all-inclusive, seven-night holiday at Mountain Meadows costs from $3,325 per person. You are advised to book at least three to four months in advance - more if you are planning to take you family during a school holiday.
