THE THREE SISTERS

TALLINN, ESTONIA
PHOTO GALLERY
Until now, the choice of hotels in Tallinn was limited to ex-Soviet Intourist blocks or traditional, chintz-and-brocade places. The Three Sisters is Tallinn's first contemporary-style hotel, housed in three adjacent 14th-century buildings, the so-called sisters, in the former merchants' area of the medieval old city. Although there are some original wooden beams and the odd exposed stone buttress, The Three Sisters is a very slick conversion devoid of sloping floors and creaking, narrow staircases.
Each of the 23 bedrooms has been decorated differently. Apart from the Red Room, the colours are mainly soft, warming pastels, and en-suite bathing facilities range from wet rooms in Brazilian slate to freestanding baths in the bedroom. The decor combines classic French antiques with modern, bespoke items, flatscreen TVs and kilims on the parquet floors. Have a drink in front of the fireplace in the library, with its high ceilings and full-wall bookcase, before dinner in the restaurant or Cloud Seven bar, taking advantage of the hotel's 3,000-bottle cellar.
