ISLANDS

For the third time, and second year running, you voted the coral atolls of Maldives your favourite islands. You rated them the safest (92.35) and most environmentally friendly (87.66); and even though they may offer the least variety of attractions (a dull 63.23), the Indian Ocean views inspired a highly respectable 94.56 for scenery. Bali bounced back, reaping top marks both for range of accommodation (94.32) and people/hospitality (a generous 97.04), but a low score for safety (72.35) reflected current perceptions. Closer to home, Sicily is by far your best bet for food/restaurants (92.35); further afield, evergreen Barbados has the best beaches (95.06), the pristine Malaysian island of Langkawi the best climate (97.50), and stunning Sri Lanka offers the best value for money (93.85).
