WHY GO
Plettenberg Bay in South Africa's Western Cape has long been a playground for wealthy summer residents. But now, with glamorous hotels and villas to rent, you don't have to own a home here to enjoy the 'Plett' lifestyle. The sheltered cove, its craggy mountains, wide, white beaches and wildlife-rich forests have enchanted visitors since Portuguese settlers first arrived in 1488. And with a much more moderate climate than the Cape, empty beaches and good swimming, it's not hard to see what makes Plett an amazing destination.
