WHY GO
Once regarded as Germany's most beautiful large city, the "Baroque Florence", Dresden still bears the scars of World War II, when it was bombed by allied forces in February 1945. Today the city is restoring its classic skyline, along with its confidence and a sense of fun. During the last decade, since the end of the Cold War, Saxony's historic capital has been painstakingly restored. Although many of its treasures have vanished, an immense amount remains: a first-class opera house, some sublime baroque architecture and one of the finest collections of Renaissance art in the world.
